This is a timelapse of me developing the game “You are the king” for the Ludum Dare 48h game development challenge. In total I worked 30 hours and 34 minutes on the game. You can download the game and play it for yourself here:

About my futuristic music game prototype: The Flight

In 2011 the Swiss government decided, for the first time ever, to fund a few indie games in Switzerland. Naturally I applied with the prototype of an aspiring and innovative music game called “the flight”. All tough my application was rejected the video of the prototype was later on picked up by Kotaku. Much to my surprise.
History Lesson 3: Doppelscope

Doppelscope was my thesis game in my undergrad program at the University of the Arts, Zurich. It’s an abstract puzzle game where you have to bring each world into balance by making the right connections. Even tough the game received the very low grade D, it won the Unity Awards 2009 in the category Best Visual Design.
The game has gone trough a lot of iterations. More so on the visual side then gameplay wise. I’ll try to write down some of these and the current issues I’m having with the game.
Introduction
Hi, my name is Tobias Baumann and I’m a game/visual designer from Switzerland.
I’ve studied Game Design at the University of the Arts in Zurich and this blog will mainly be about my work as an independant game developer. After my graduation in 2009 I did a lot of freelance work as web designer, VFX artist and hosting websites with some game prototyping on the side. Recently I’ve come to realize that I essentially was wasting my time with boring work instead of focusing what I really want to do: developing highly polished and innovative games. So I’ve decided to abandon my past workload and focus all of my time on game development.
Because I’m usually a pretty shy person and find my work dull and boring I’ve kept it to myself. But then again I realized that this may not be the case at all and that some of you actually might find my work pretty interesting. So this I’ll post a few of my games and working prototypes on here along with some commentary about game design choices and issues.
